Creating trust with our clients is THE most important thing. We must have them trust us, it’s critical because they can’t see us. We are a remote based company, our clients pay us in advance so we really need them to trust that we are going to do what we say we’re going to do.
We have so many ways we create trust but there’s 2 biggies.
Trust them by default. Communication.
If we trust them by default, then we can pave the way to a mutual trust relationship faster. If we can lead by example you’re going to get to a trust based relationship far faster. It seems strange to say ‘we automatically trust our clients’ because who wouldn’t? Well, lots of people. We trust them to pay us on time, we trust them to communicate with us and we trust them to provide a 2 way feedback dialogue. If we don’t trust them to do these things it’s unlikely we’ll be a good fit and would probably not onboard them as clients. We need a certain amount of input just like anyone who works together so this is critical.
Communication is also vital. At first, we over communicate. We send weekly (daily for those with larger needs) updates, As the Managing Director, I also catch up with them fortnightly at first and then monthly once everyone is confident. We’ve found that if we over communicate, our clients FEEL like they can almost see us working away in the background without us actually being there.
When they get their update with a detailed plan of what has been completed, anything that’s outstanding and anything we need from them it’s reassuring and something to refer to if they lose track.
Lastly, time. It takes time. We do everything we can to make the road to trust as short as possible, but the reality is it takes time. So, we provide a premium service that they don’t know how they survived without and the rest falls into place nicely 😊
Trust is something we really pride ourselves in creating so we can develop long term working relationships.
If there’s anything else you do to create trust we’d love to hear about it!
Thanks
